1. Ellen Kennedy: Waterfront Regeneration Trust Conference
- Recap of the brownfield conference.
2. David Tomasello: Lakefront Recycling.
- Utilizes three different recycling processes: Wood recycling, Aggregate recycling, and Soil conversion.
- Wood recycling products include medium density fiber processed wood, playground cushion, and landscaping block.
- Aggregate recycling products include crushed concrete, brick, and stone to be used for roadbase and landscaping.
- Soil conversion techniques recycle organic materials (such as leaves, food wastes, vegetable wastes, lawn and garden rubbish, and select sludges) into fertile soil.
- Distributes leftover fill to construction projects and recycles non-hazardous soil associated with brownfield recovery.
- Having limited success locally. City is saving 16 dollar per ton on tipping fees associated with recycling wood and leaves. However, red tape at the county level is preventing the transport of already collected materials.
3. Joan Bozer: Western New York Sustainable Energy Association
- "Opportunities in Buffalo are boundless for sustainable development!"
- Related the success of their solar energy conference, where alternative energy sources and technologies were exhibited, to the prospective Green Gold conference.
- Next Tour of Solar Homes is to be held in October of 1999.
- States that Buffalo should be the hub for green business and for sustainable development.
4. Ed Arnold: Environmental Trade Mission to India
- Purpose: For sales and marketing executives to showcase their environmental products to and network with interested businesses in India’s three most polluted cities.
- Cost: $5800 to $4500 (pre-grant amount). Subsidized amount for environmental co. $2500.
- Itinerary: Leave April 9, return April 21. Visiting New Delhi, the Environment India Trade Show’99, Mumbai (Bombay), and Hyderabad. \
