1. What is the Green Gold Initiative?
- To raise the level of consciousness to envrionmental problems
- To develop jobs in Buffalo
- To develop proposals and programs to achieve these goals.
- We will develop a budget and search for sources of funding.
- Green Gold will bring varied interests together; Those of the city of Buffalo and those of green businesses.
2. South Buffalo Redevelopment Plan: How can Green Gold Get Involved?
- Kevin Greiner is the point person.
- 700 to 800 acres to be redeveloped.
- Governor has allocated 10 million in infrastructure money and is in very serious discussion with several developers.
- Voluntary cleanup has been submitted to the DEC.
- Development possible for the first 90 acres in the summer of 1999.
3. Suggestions for Green Gold Programs
- Meidinger: Suggested conference cooperation with a sister city to be determined. 1999 in Buffalo, 2000 in sister city, 2001 in conjunction. Stated that 1999 cooperation on conference was too early.
- Fonsi: Suggested that Green Gold look into the environmental testing of a school with regard to indoor air quality, energy usage, chemical usage and disposal, etc. Also suggested that we correlate these criteria with student health records, student grades, energy bills, etc.
- Tomasello: Noted that Green Gold may want to get involved with several interrelated conferences within the area.
4. Prospective Green Gold Businesses
- Dick Grainger of Conserval Systems: Produces solar walls-- solar air exchange systems. Product consists of black, perforated panels that use the sun to preheat air prior to transport into building. Considers Buffalo to be the "...solar air heating capital of the world!"
- Doug Troy: Business that produces environmentally friendly cleaning solvents used for cleaning graffiti.
